Game Day - Shark Tank Time

  • Nov. 22nd, 2008 at 8:31 AM
So our boys lost to the Kings. Far as I'm concerned, the Kings got lucky. With three of our five biggest contributors on the sidelines and the whole team utterly wrecked after the tilt with Anaheim (the West Coast Flyers in play style, only better), the game was still close until those empty net goals. If we had been anywhere close to top form, the Kings would have been queens, if you know what I mean. ;)

But that was Thursday. Our boys had yesterday off to rest and recover. Tonight is the big one, the toughest test of the four and the one I'm personally looking forward to the most. This is the one I want to win more than any of the others - the San Jose Sharks, the top team in the NHL. Do I think we can win? Yes. Do I think we will? Jury's out. They've been idle since Monday, I think they get Nabokov back tonight, and they're unveiling a new jersey - this one all black. Let's hope it turns into their shroud. :)

Here's best of luck to our boys tonight!

Oh, and ... the Battle of California had this to say about the new jerseys:

Still, you guys know that I'm just a teeny tiny bit superstitious. The old black jerseys were seemingly cursed, at least for the first few seasons. I don't have specific numbers but I believe that the team's record when wearing them was roughly 0-19573893-2. They did eventually start winning with the black jerseys on, so whatever curse they had was apparently shaken off.

History does tend to repeat itself though, and with the Sharks wearing the new duds on consecutive nights (Caps and Wednesday night against the Blackhawks), I say this: if you lose both games, burn them. Burn them all and never speak of them again.

Black jerseys, cursed? Dude. :) I'll drink to that curse continuing itself. XD

They also had this tidbit:

Fingers crossed that Jose Theodore will be in net.

Gabby, if you put Theodore in that net after the game Johnson had Thursday night, I will fly out there myself and slap you, so help me.

this video of the caps talking about their room mates was posted on tarik's blog today- it was pretty amusing, especially steckel's comparison of old vs. new room mates, and why eric fehr enjoys rooming with jeff schultz.

[20-NOV-2008] So sleeping tonight...

  • Nov. 20th, 2008 at 3:04 PM
I know the Caps are playing again, but the meltdown I had at lunch today over what turned out to be absolutely nothing has convinced me that I cannot go a second night on less than 8 hours' sleep, ESPECIALLY since my parents are coming into town tomorrow for my daughter's 13th birthday. I'm counting on everybody to let me know what happened!

Last night's game was very exciting, and I maintain that the reason the Ducks were able to close to within two was that our defense was absolutely exhausted by the end of the 2nd period. Poti was on the ice for damn near half the game! With Green, Morrisonn, and Fedorov all out, not to mention Pothier on LTIR, our defense is getting painfully thin. Morrisonn or Fedorov will have to play tonight, or we're risking worse just from sheer exhaustion.

I just hope one or both of them is healthy enough to play without risk of re-injury.

That hit on Green last night just *hurt* to watch, and I was concerned that he also seemed to have hit his head on the boards. But even Green acknowledged it was a clean hit...

Unlike the spear to Ovechkin, right in the "produce section"... That one hurt to watch, too! WOW, that hurt to watch!

Still, 6-4 is a respectable win, and I don't blame Theodore for letting four goals past him, not with the defense flagging as badly as they seemed to be after they had to pick up the slack for Green's being out and hurt. Poti was on the ice for damn near half the game! Still, Theodore stopped 28/32 for a .875 save percentage, but Hiller's 3/6 was far, far worse, and Giguere was only .88888 repeating.

The Brashear-Parros fight was unsurprising, and I'm willing to call it a draw between our Big Red Punch Buggy and the 1970s Pr0nStar Parros... even though Brash took him to the ice, he was getting beat on pretty bad before he did. One bonus: Parros had to ice his knuckles after... that'll learn him to try and hit Brash's hard head!

Here's hoping the Caps can pull one out against the Kings, and then be rested to play the Sharks... THAT is going to be a very tough game.

Tour

  • Nov. 20th, 2008 at 2:29 PM
So the tour is all done. Pasha was at the final show last night. Dmitry was at the Toronto stop, along with Mary, Jean-Marc and the Canadian finalists. Did anyone go to the final show (or any of the other shows)? Any reports on things that stood out?

New Hockey Team In Baltimore!

  • Nov. 20th, 2008 at 10:49 AM
.....unfortunately, it's Baltimore, Ontario, not Maryland. lol.

They have a similar logo. They supposedly had players from the last Baltimore (Md.) Clippers drop the puck for their home opener. They are even using the old Clippers fight song.

And how much of a tease is this for Baltimore hockey fans? The league that these Clippers are in also has a team called Norwood and another team called the Blast!

D'oh! Schtoopid piece of crap 1st Mariner Arena!

EDIT: 4:50PM Scrapbook (aka pics.livejournal.com) is back up! Thank you.

---------------

Sorry guys for the late notice! We've had to bring down the ScrapBook databases for some emergency maintenance. This means pics in your LiveJournal gallery are going to be unavailable. They should be back up within the next hour. I'll update this post when they're back online and we've checked them out.

Top 8 Elimination Poll

  • Nov. 19th, 2008 at 3:09 PM
The Top 8 Elimination Poll is up.

Check out what our stats say about the Top 4, and see how someone over on Wikipedia took the Izaak problem into their own hands.

Note: Izaak and Vincent are two votes apart in our sidebar poll (116 for Izaak and 114 for Vincent).

People who want to see Vincent instead of Izaak in the Top 4 might want to consider that when they vote this week and next.

EDIT@6:54PM PST

We just implemented a temporary fix for our internal network and it *looks* promising. We'll let it bake in overnight and see how well it performs tonight and tomorrow.

------

Hi hi!

We've completed the majority of the move and had the site back up by 20:00 UTC (hey, look, I can post! You can read! Yay!) , but there's still some lingering issues that we need to clean up and are aware of so please be a little more patient while we wrap up the odds and ends.

I want to echo the lj_releases post where we thank [info]burr86 and [info]dormando for their ceaseless efforts, skill and knowledge. The LJ Ops and Engineering teams have/are *still* working their butts off but without burr86 and dormando's expertise, we could not have pulled this off.

For you techies, the slowness on our website is known, and the issue is currently isolated to oversubscribed ports on our core switches. That's direct from our vendor. Yeah, I know... Anyways, we're trying to implement a temporary workaround and we'll be looking to upgrade our hardware as a permanent solution. Please, hang in there a little longer!

Blake McGrath - Radar

  • Nov. 18th, 2008 at 7:08 PM

Blake McGrath - Radar

Song: Radar by Britney Spears
Subject: Blake McGrath from So You Think You Can Dance and Dancelife
Description: I was attempting to make a crack!vid but it didn‘t really work out. lol I wanted to step away from the angst and do something fun but I think I got a bit carried away… it turned out kind of seizure inducing with all the flashes.
I don’t really like reality TV but I got sucked into watching SYTYCD: Canada and recognized Blake McGrath and ended up catching up on all his stuff that they had at LJ & IF. I don’t know what everyone else thinks but I think the guy has talent and spunk. He just needed his own ‘Radar’ vid esp. since practically everyone‘s made one. lol
Disclaimer: I do not own anything except the concept of the video. All clips belong to their respective owners. This vid was made for entertainment purposes only. Clips from SYTYCD, SYTYCD: Canada and Dancelife.
